STAND WITH BELIEVERS AT RISK IN INDIA

Legal advocacy:

“It’s your fault my son is dead. It’s your fault my grandson is dead. You killed them with your toxic faith. Come outside. I’ll cut you to pieces!”

Kusum hunched deeper into the darkness of her home. Her father-in-law continued to rail against her, brandishing his axe—and slamming it against the front door with each threat.

Kusum was at a loss at such anger. But more than that, she knew her life was in danger. All she could do was pray…

The story of Kusum

For over 60 years, Open Doors has worked in the world's most oppressive countries, empowering Christians who are persecuted for their beliefs. Open Doors equips persecuted Christians in more than 60 countries through programs like Bible & Gospel Development, Women & Children Advancement and Christian Community Restoration.

“The villagers knew I had persuaded my husband to go to church with me. They blamed me for the sickness that caused his death. I worked as a cook, and then they fired me. Then I got a job at a school, but was again kicked out. They told me it was because I refused to recant my faith in Jesus.

“I struggled to earn money and find food to feed my children. I had to hide my faith so I could earn some money for food and to draw water from the well. Then tragedy struck again. My son died of a rare blood disease. I have lost my husband. I have lost my youngest son.

“And almost immediately upon returning home from the hospital, the villagers lashed out at me. They wouldn’t allow me to bury my son. They said, ‘You brought this curse upon your family! Because of your faith, your husband and your son are dead!’

“In the end, I was allowed to bury my son on the outskirts of the village. I was all by myself. Nobody was allowed to help me.”

Kusum shares: in her own words

Kusum has lost so much, but not hope

Our teams on the ground in India met with Kusum and heard her grief, how she absorbed the ridicule and insults thrown at her.

Our team in India provided support to Kusum. Much like the resources you can help provide today with your own gift. And today, Kusum is alive. And while the situation in her village still remains tense, she’s safe.

But more than that, she has hope. And hope is so powerful.

This is the challenge

Some of India's current leaders are going to great lengths to completely annihilate the Body of Christ in India.

And they’ve made this promise: “We’ll wipe out Christianity in India by 2021!”

The vow, shocking as it is, has been accepted with open arms by many of the local populace.

That’s why persecution in India has grown exponentially over the last 3 years. If you look at our 2018 World Watch List, you’ll notice India is ranked #11. It seems an impossible jump from its #21 ranking only 3 years ago.

That’s why we’ve set a goal of raising $185,000 by Easter Sunday, April 1—to provide critical resources and holistic support to help save the lives of persecuted Christians in India.

That’s also why we need your immediate help.  Especially now, when your gift will make twice the impact through our $30,000 Challenge Grant opportunity...

The kind of persecution believers in India are facing

Legal discrimination: Christians are vulnerable to unjust officials who can throw them into prison without due process, simply for being a Christian.

Physical harm: The lives of believers are at risk of violence and attacks if their faith is exposed to the wrong people.

Professional discrimination: Many of our brothers and sisters aren’t hired for jobs or they’re terminated, because of their faith.

What your gift will provide

Our teams and partners on the ground have identified the most significant areas needing help in India. And where you can make the greatest impact for persecuted Christians—and ultimately, the Kingdom— when you give today:

Protecting believers from false charges and unjust verdicts because of their faith.

Emergency medical care:

Providing emergency resources to help with healing for believers who’ve been attacked.

Income-generating projects:

Empowering Christians to employ their gifts and talents to earn an income and care for their families.

Christian materials and resources:

Encouraging faith and spiritual growth for our brothers and sisters that will help them stand strong in their faith.

Will you join God in saving the lives of twice as many of our persecuted brothers and sisters in India now?

This is a special opportunity to demonstrate God’s love and compassion to believers in India who risk everything when they make the decision to follow Christ.

So please give now. Your gift will double in impact through our $30,000 Challenge Grant, and will be a part of making a lifesaving impact by helping to raise $185,000 by Easter Sunday, April 1.
